I would like to thank the nice middle aged lady server for taking care of us and our needs. The food and the cafe design is so lovely. During a heavy snowfall day, we came specifically to enjoy the secret basement, but the food and cafe level was great too. I recommend if you are nearby the area!

The food was pretty delicious! They have great burgers and a variety of pizzas. I loved the salad bar!
The thing that makes this cafe unique is the basement that is filled with scenes from Howl’s Moving Castle and another really cool anime!
The vibes are nice and the staff were all extremely kind and friendly!
The cafe is extremely popular and you can only make a reservation for big parties, so expect a waiting time.

I loved this cafe. The basement is beautifully decorated like howls moving castle and different other studio ghibli movies. You can see the time and effort it must have taken and it’s really beautiful. The food was good, although the pizza was a bit burned. The owner was very kind.

The vibes of this cafe was just right from the start. We came on a snowy Sat morn. The train station (100m away) was old and quaint like from an anime scene. There was hardly a queue coz of the snow i guess.

The atmosphere inside was cozy and there were many small details that you will see if you made a small effort to appreciate the effort of the staff to decorate the place. Hint* try pulling out small drawers.

Price for the food was fair. Taste was delicious. Honey that came with our 4cheese pizza was good quality. Sesame buns used for our hamburgers were nicely toasted! There is a simple salad buffet to start your meal. Free flow of drinks including apple and grape juices, coffee and matcha!

After payment, we made our way to the basement to look at the ghibli themed decorations.

Wonderful experience!

PS. If you bought the snow monkey pass (2days) from Nagano and were wondering what to do on Day2, transport is free so PLEASE come here and get a once in a lifetime experience!

Neko Machi is a cute cafe with delicious food and a beautiful interior. There is plenty of seating here, with a few different areas being styled in a unique way. In the basement is the Studio Ghibli themed homage. You can go down after you finish your food and drink, be careful as the stairs are steep. It was a great experience and worth the trip if you're around the Nagano area.

We got there at 11am expecting to get a coffee but we were told it is lunch service and we have to buy one lunch meal each to view the underground gallery. This was a bit difficult as we were on a limited time frame so we had to pack half of it to go. I think this was just a cultural difference of what cafe means in Australia vs Japan!

The underground gallery area was very cool and much larger than I expected. We came for the Howl's Moving Castle display but there are several other rooms and it's quite immersive.

We were the only ones there the whole time, so I recommend coming early on a weekday.

Had a great time here. The food was good and the downstairs Ghibli themed area was fantastic. Best of all were the friendly staff who were wonderful, particularly a young man who continued chatting to us when he saw us at the train station and gave us advice for the rest of our trip.

A gem for Ghibli fans! Have some delicious food (recommend the fusion pizza of okinomiyaki) and then take your time and check out the basement replica of Howl's Moving Castle and Nausica's laboratory)
