A very lovely space and slightly an upgrade from what you would expect from a European hostel. I’ve never stayed in a capsule hotel before, so I don’t have that to compare to, but I have stayed in a few hostels across Germany, Amsterdam, and Scotland.
The vibes were great, very much a book lover’s paradise as they have books in all languages. The unfinished wood was an interesting touch; I think for the aesthetics it works, but I personally didn’t love how it felt a bit musty.
It wasn’t extremely dirty, but it wasn’t spotless either (notably felt like my double bed had a bunch of dust round the edges).
You’re pretty close to other capsules, so you can’t “spread out” or get much privacy except inside in the capsule itself.
It was great that sheets, pillows, blankets, and towels were provided. Along with communal soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner! Wasn’t expecting these amenities for the price we paid (~$60 for one night in a double room), so this was nice. The bed wasn’t too small, but we are short people so typically bed sizes aren’t an issue. There’s also an outlet in the capsule which is convenient.
You store your luggage at the beneath your bed, but lots of people just left their luggage out (I don’t think theft is a big issue, but there’s a safe above the bed for any smaller valuables).
Luckily there was an elevator and they store your luggage before and after check-out, which was so nice! Check in starts at 4pm and check out is at 11am latest. But keep in mind early check in is from 1-4pm and they charge you 550 yen/hour/person, so best to ask to just store your luggage.
I did like the private showers and in general the bathroom wasn’t too bad for a shared bathroom—honestly it was probably one of the nicest bathrooms for this type of accommodations.
Something that also surprised me was that the capsules were fairly soundproof! I didn’t get bombarded with a bunch of alarms in the morning, and in general it’s a quiet space which I appreciated.
Overall this is a great option for a budget accommodation, but don’t expect a luxury experience or a very private & clean space (unless you pay for the actually room they have there and not a capsule). I personally won’t be staying in a capsule hotel ever again, but I guess this was a good experience and saved me some money so I don’t regret staying.
